Should I setup a training routine?

Like humans, dogs are very routine driven. They like the comfort of them when it comes to sleeping, eating, and other things. Walks, training, exercise, and nosework can be routines. But there is a difference between having a routine and going through the motions. You don't want your dog bored.

The easiest way to tell if your dog is bored is to see if you're bored. Time spent with your dog should be fun. If it's not fun for you, chances are it might not be as fun as it could be for your dog. We all thrive off of energy. If you're bored, you're not giving off energy and enthusiasm and your dog can tell.

Find a way to make the experience fun for yourself. With nosework, you can make it a game. Involve other people. One person hides the pouches. The other competes with the dog to find them. Whatever your strategy, vary what you do. Keep it fun, exciting, and full of energy!
